If you own a lawnmower, then you have doubtlessly run into the frustrations that comes with engine stops, ineffective blades, or throttle problems. Your mower is one of the primary tools of lawn care, and it is also the tool that is going to take the most abuse most of the time.
It is therefore a good idea to keep your lawn mower in the best shape possible throughout the year. If you make a conscious effort to maintain your machine over time, you will get much better results out of it. Mowing the lawn is enough of a chore without you having to fight the mower too. Here are some tips for keeping it in good shape:
1- Be sure to clean out the underside of your mower on a regular basis. Dried grass will accumulate and harden under there, increasing the amount of times the blades clog during operation.
2- Arrange to have the blades of your lawn mower sharpened as well. Even though they are just cutting through grass, they will dull over time and become markedly less effective.
3- Make sure to always use the right mixture ratio of gas and oil if you have an engine that requires it. This will prevent the engine from starving or drowning, respectively.
4- Always try to store your mower in a cool dry place, if possible. The machine will degrade if it is left out in the elements and will have a much smaller lifespan.
5- Don’t push the engine levels on the mower. If the grass is long and thick, go slower. Don’t force anything.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your lawn mower remains in good shape and is able to do the work you need it to. It is an investment of time and effort, but it is worth it in the long run!
